Local boy makes good

Ronny Jordan

It's a tale of local boy makes good as New York-based guitarist Ronny Jordan returns home to play his first week at Ronnie Scott's as headliner.

Promoting his new album, At Last, he fronts a US quartet that includes fellow Londoner Wayne Batchelor on bass. Originally inspired by Wes Montgomery, Jordan made his breakthrough with The Antidote and A Brighter Day, albums that appeal to jazz and middle-ofthe-road listeners alike.

Laidback and sophisticated, with skilful touches and a contemporary sound, his music is just the right side of smooth.

Mon 17-Sat 22 May Ronnie Scott's, 47 Frith Street, W1 (020-7439 0747)
