Layo and Bushwacka headline at Dusk Til Dawn's maritime mash up, DJs Phil Faversham and Alex Alvarez play at Stereo Sushi, a party at Cube & Star pays tribute to David Bowie and it's a night of hip-hop flavour up in Islington...
Dusk Til Dawn Boat Party
The Silver Sturgeon, Sailing from Embankment Pier, WC1
Having attended Outkast's album launch on board last week, I can vouch for the Silver Sturgeon's banging soundsystem and potential for top-class party antics. So headlined as it is by The End's residents, Layo and Bushwacka, the prospect of partying on deck as the sun goes down at Dusk Till Dawn's maritime mash up is a mouth-watering one. The party continues at The End afterwards.(020 7419 9199). Sat 5 Aug, 7pm-midnight on boat, 11pm-7am in club.
Stereo Sushi
Ministry of Sound, SE1
Having taken over Hed Kandi, the label that's become synonymous with accessible, soulful house music, Ministry launch a night named after Hed Kandi's sister label. Following a fun, Hed Kandi-ish music policy, Phil Faversham and Alex Alvarez are among the DJs, while Bongo Dave and a brass section provide instrumental entertainment. (0870 060 266). Tonight, 11pm-7am.
David
Cube & Star, N1
A very cool bunch, including electronic/guitar trio Ulterior are behind this Hoxton party, whose playlist consists of music performed, produced or written by David Bowie. Ulterior themselves, who have a single out this week, will also be taking the stage. (020 7739 8824). Tonight, 8pm-1am.
A Skillz
The Old Queen's Head, N1
It's a night of hip-hop flavour up in Islington with much vaunted 24-year-old turntablist A Skillz delivering the kind of mixes that have seen him tour Australia and host the VIP room at Live 8. Focussing on old school rap with a spot of Eighties electro, all interspersed by cuts and scratches, his marathon DJ set should be a corker. (020 7354 9993). Tonight 7pm-2am.
Mish Mash
Cargo, EC1
This unique monthly has developed an impressive following thanks to an onthe-pulse, eclectic music policy and consistently well-chosen live acts. The organisers of the club are also a band, also called Mish Mash, whose first single, the disco-flavoured Speechless, went down extremely well on dancefloors. Expect to hear this and new material as they take the stage. (020 7749 7840). Sat 5 Aug, 8pm-3am.
