The Coral Sea Sessions
Queen Elizabeth Hall, SE1

Two of rock's most enigmatic figures open their methods to public viewing this week.

Punk poet Patti Smith and Kevin Shields, of My Bloody Valentine and Primal Scream, rekindle the partnership they formed at the Meltdown festival she curated last year, in order to record their music live on stage.

Smith plays the first half with a view to including the songs she performs on a forthcoming covers album.

Then Shields joins her to have another crack at The Coral Sea, the epic piece Smith wrote for Meltdown about her friend Robert Mapplethorpe.

Everything will be recorded, so bring a cushion - if Shields is his usual perfectionist self, it'll be a very long night.
