Chibuku Shake Shake has grown from a night for a few hundred people above a brewery in Liverpool in the late 1990s to become a leading clubland player of the noughties, hosting events in London, Liverpool and Malawi. Chibuku, however, is returning to its roots of bringing dancefloor-rocking A-list DJs to intimate venues: Saturday features first lady of house Lottie, UK hip hop stalwarts Rodney P and 'Daddy' Skitz and fast-rising Bristol duo The Beat Monkeys, who tear up funk, house, breaks and electro across four decks, embellished with turntable tricks galore.
Sat, Chibuku Shake Shake, Herbal, 12-14 Kingsland Road E2, 9pm to 3am, £8, £7 concs. Tel: 020 7613 4462. Tube: Old Street
The UK's leading urban music night of the last decade, Twice As Nice, marks its 12th birthday in style by teaming up with Jay-Z's Roc-A-Fella Records. Sunday will see Roc-AFella rapper Memphis Bleek lead a cavalcade of DJs including Semtex (1Xtra) and infamous party starters Rampage (1Xtra), and triple winner of Best DJ Mobo Steve Sutherland playing hip hop and r'n'b classics, crunk, grime, reggaeton and dancehall, while Matt Jam Lamont will step back in time to UK garage's glory days. Roc-A-Fella and Def Jam CEO Jay-Z (and entourage) is also expected after concluding his UK tour at Wembley.
Sun, Twice As Nice, Ministry Of Sound, 103 Gaunt Street SE1, 9pm to 3am, £15 to £40. Tel: 0870 246 2050. www.ministryofsound.com Tube: Elephant & Castle
Ben Watt's deep, textured brand of electronic music is often described as 'sophisticated' (ie mature or 'dad' house) but it remains relevant thanks to absorbing the sounds of now-minimal techno and acid electro, in mix CDs, remixes and club night Buzzin' Fly. Tomorrow the quarterly night will feature three hours of luscious house from Watt, Berlin bleeps from Phonique (of minimal's leading label Poker Flat) and San Fran's tough, melodic house whizz Justin Martin.
Friday, Buzzin' Fly, The End, 16a West Central Street WC1, 11pm to 6am, £12. Tel: 0870 060 0100. www.endclub.com Tube: Holborn
93 Feet East is a suitably bohemian spot to launch Pathaan's City Hippy night: Pathaan is a laid-back DJ, with regular appearances at festivals including The Big Chill, Secret Garden Party and Bestival. His club night features live performances from the Bombay Dub Orchestra and the messy polyglot electronic sounds of Sonik Gurus. DJs include Pathaan with global electronica, and Nihal, with jumping hip hop, bhangra-rap and r'n'b.
Friday, City Hippy, 93 Feet East, 150 Brick Lane E1, 7pm to 1am, free before 9pm, £5 after. Tel: 020 7247 3293. Tube: Aldgate East
