Judges are swayed by UK's king of hip hop
Amar Singh, Evening Standard13 Nov 2006
London rapper Sway was named Best UK Act at the first Black Entertainment Television Hip Hop awards.
The 24-year-old MC and producer from Hornsey fought off competition from Dizzee Rascal, Blak Twang, Kano and Plan B to pick up the trophy at the ceremony in Atlanta.
Sway, real name Derek Safo, said: "I'm over the moon, it's a massive opportunity for me and hip hop in the UK."
Sway first surfaced with This Is My Promo, which he sold on the internet, on the streets and after gigs.
