Wonder of Stevie keeps growing
Alexa Baracaia, Evening Standard5 Dec 2006
Stevie Wonder appeared to have turned man-mountain when he presented veteran crooner Tony Bennett with an award in Las Vegas.
The 56-year-old Motown legend made a star appearance at the Billboard Music Awards showing off a physique that was more like the late "walrus of love" Barry White.
The soul legend has kept a fairly low profile outside of the US in recent years - although he has recorded tracks with Busta Rhymes and Snoop Dogg.
Wonder also features on Bennett's 80th birthday album, Duets: An American Classic.
He was drafted in at the last minute to present the lifetime achievement prize, after hosts Paris Hilton and Britney Spears reportedly pulled out.
Organisers were forced to go ahead without a host, and instead relied on a selection of guest presenters including Courtney Love.
Janet Jackson, Gwen Stefani and Black Eyed Peas frontwoman Fergie were among those performing.
Mary J Blige was the woman of the night, scooping nine prizes including best R&B artist, best R&B female and best R&B album. And American Idol winner, 23-year-old country artist Carrie Underwood, took five awards.

I totally agree with Nex. Why this obsession with appearance? Stevie is, and always will be, a genius. Surely what matters is his musical talent rather than what size suit he wears.
