Old folkies Vashti Bunyan and Bert Jansch, lairy rockers The Twang, plus a metal outfit and a Swedish multi-instrumentalist are David Smyth's preferred treats.

0 Degrees of Separation
Roundhouse, NW3

Long-lost folk heroine Vashti Bunyan owes her belated comeback to a great extent on the adoration bestowed on her by current acoustic hotshots such as San Francisco band Vetiver and our own Adem. Now she takes to the stage together with these young admirers, plus Argentina's Juana Molina, for a collaborative evening that will be understated but extremely beautiful. (0870 389 1846). Sat 13 Jan, 7pm.

Bert Jansch
Roundhouse, NW1

Another veteran folk star surrounded by his young disciples. Jansch showcases the highlights of well-received recent album The Black Swan with the help of Beth Orton, Bernard Butler and Paul Wassif. (0870 389 1846). Tonight, 7pm.

The Twang
Club NME at Koko, NW1

One of 2007's biggest buzzes is reserved for this lairy Birmingham bunch, whose semi-rapped tales of late night parties and furious neighbours have all the right ingredients to make them this year's Hard-Fi, Arctic Monkeys, the Streets, or any other band who have appealed to Britain's hooligan element in recent times. (0870 432 5527). Tonight, 9.30pm

Loney, Dear
Notting Hill Arts Club, W11 The Social, W1

Loney, Dear is just Swedish multi-instrumentalist Emil Svanangen, but on stage at these two shows will be a far more interesting nine musicians, together reworking the delicate sounds of rather lovely recent album Sologne. Look out for hornpacked hit-in-waiting The City, The Airport. Notting Hill Arts Club (020 7460 4459) Sat 13 Jan, 4-8pm. The Social (020 7473 0620) Sun 14 Jan, 6pm.

Killswitch Engage
Brixton Academy, SW9

Metal band from Boston who share a record label with Slipknot and Cradle of Filth, but whose latest album As Daylight Dies sees them becoming more tuneful and selling very well in their homeland as a consequence. (0870 771 2000). Sat 13 Jan, 7pm.
