Chalk without cheese: Mystery Jets play live at the Scala, with a DJ set from Hot Chip

Big rock/rave, boogie cheese and an eclectic bash with Gilles Peterson are among Chris Elwell-Sutton's best weekend club events.
Chalk
The Scala, N1
This brand new night takes the rock/rave combination to the next level both in terms of size and quality. Bigger and hopefully better than any comparable club night, the opening party at this 1,000-capacity venue features Mystery Jets live and DJ sets from Hot Chip and Trash's The Lovely Jonjo. The White Heat DJs and the Whore Moans also appear. (020 7833 2022). Sat 13 Jan, 10.30pm-4am.
Club Popjustice
Trash Palace, W1
Inspired by the website of the same name, this party reflects the vaguely mocking affection in which the site holds the world of the cheesier side of pop. It's not just about irony, though. Anyone venturing here should be prepared to party hard to the tunes of Boogaloo Stu and chums. (020 7734 0522). Tonight, 11pm-3am.
Fabriclive
Fabric, EC1 We haven't heard much from Mylo for a few months - so it's nice to see him playing again in London. Apart from him and Annie Mac, though, it's another drum'n'bass-heavy disco experience at Fabric tonight with more experimental figures such as Doc Scott and Marcus Intalex joining veterans Grooverider and DJ Hype. (020 7336 8898). Tonight, 9.30pm-5am.
Radio One Worldwide Awards
Cargo, EC2
Gilles Peterson's annual eclectic bash is unusual in that it's an industry party that's refreshingly free of VIP twattery, welcoming normal people alongside artists. 4Hero and Karizma join Peterson on the turntables, The Beauty Room play live, and there are bound to be some surprise guests too. (020 7749 7844). Sat 13 Jan, 7pm-3am.
Costa Urbana
Notting Hill arts Club, W11
With an increasing number of sensibly-timed Sunday parties being thrown, clubbing on the day of rest doesn't seem such a nutty practice as is used to do. This eclectic monthly event features Arabic sounds as well as gently dancey beats from the Mediterranean and Eastern Europe. (020 7460 4459). Sun 14 Jan, 5pm-1am.
