Manics to headline Wales' first major music festival
This is London12 Mar 2007
Rock bands Manic Street Preachers, Keane and Feeder will headline Wales' first major music festival.
Organisers say the Fflam festival, which will take place in Swansea this summer, could become as big as Scotland's annual T in the Park event.
More than 50 bands will play across four stages in the city's Singleton Park, from July 13 to 15, attracting up to 30,000 festival-goers.
Placebo, The Levellers and Shikari, are also confirmed to play at Fflam - the Welsh word for flame.
Another major artist is expected to be announced in the coming weeks to headline the last night of the festival.
And the festival's promoter Straight Music will be giving three local unsigned Welsh bands the chance to perform live at the event.
John Curd, of Straight Music, said: "Our aim is that Fflam will become to Wales what T in the Park is to Scotland.
"We see this as a long-term investment in Wales, driven by our passion for quality music and giving great value for money.
"As well as giving locals the chance to see some of the best live bands around, we are also dedicated to nurturing new talent and the full line up will reflect that. Fflam will put Wales firmly on the festival map for years to come."
Councillor Gerald Clement, Swansea Council's Cabinet Member for Culture Recreation and Tourism, said he was delighted by the line-up.
He said: "We have all been waiting with baited breath to find out who the headline bands would be this year and it has been well worth the wait.
"This line-up so far will certainly put Swansea on the UK's top festivals map and there's more yet to come." Tickets go on sale from March 12.
