Colombian hip-wiggler Shakira, former Velvet Underground man John Cale and serene Frenchmen Air, are all in town this weekend.
Shakira
Wembley Arena
Always staying just the right side of being completely bonkers, Colombian hip-wiggler Shakira continues to be one of the world's most entertaining pop stars. Shimmying Wyclef collaboration Hips Don't Lie was one of the biggest hits of last year, and there are plenty more winners where that came from.
(0870 060 0870). Sun 18 Mar, 7pm.
Bright Eyes
Koko, NW1
Prolific Omaha singer-songwriter Conor Oberst made his mainstream breakthrough with his Billboard chart-topping last two albums, released simultaneously in 2005. So expectations will be high for Cassadaga, due in April and featuring guest spots from Gillian Welch and Ben Kweller. This is the first chance for British fans to hear the new songs.
(0870 432 5527). Fri 16 Mar, 7pm.
Air
Forum, NW5
The serene Frenchmen remain supremely mellow and, truth be told, rather dull on latest album Pocket Symphony. With patience, their songs can mesmerise, but they may struggle to put on a gripping live show over two nights here.
(0870 534 4444). Fri 16, Sat 17 Mar, 7pm.
John Cale
Mean Fiddler, WC2
Former Velvet Underground man and producer of note, playing live to show what fans can expect from his latest live album and DVD, Circus.
(020 7434 9592). Sat 17 Mar, 6pm.
Coldcut - A Tribute to Robert Anton Wilson
Queen Elizabeth Hall, SE1
The ever-pioneering electronic duo attempt an audio-visual spectacular out of the work of cult author and free thinker Robert Anton Wilson, best known for his Illuminatus! Trilogy. Venerable graphic novelist Alan Moore will also appear.
(08703 800 400). Sun 18 Mar, 7.45pm.
Morning:
8°c
