Added volume: expect energetic indie rock as Maximo Park preview songs from their second album, Our Earthly Pleasures

Country music superstar Dolly Parton, reggae legend Lee 'Scratch' Perry, indie rockers Maximo Park and Touareg nomads Tinariwen all play the capital this weekend.
Tinariwen
Barbican, EC2
This extraordinary band of Touareg nomads wander as far as London to show off the skeletal desert blues of latest album Aman Iman: Water Is Life. Now that they're on the same record label as Paul Weller and working with Robert Plant's guitarist, expectations are high for a major crossover to a rock audience. Their wonderful music certainly deserves the exposure.

Dolly Parton
Wembley Arena
Second night at Wembley for country's most famous face, who wowed crowds at the start of the week with a glitzy trawl through decades of hits, and plenty of well-worn anecdotes.
(0870 060 0870). Sun 25 Mar, 7pm.
Maximo Park
The Scala, N1
Just prior to the release of second album Our Earthly Pleasures, the north-eastern quintet preview their new songs at the Popstarz club night. Expect energetic indie rock, this time with added volume.
(020 7833 2022) Fri 23 Mar, 10pm-4am.
Lee 'Scratch' Perry
Jazz Cafe, NW1
Reggae legend Perry returns for another of his Jazz CafÈ stints. The genius of his work with the likes of Bob Marley and the Skatalites is indisputable, but his unconventional live abilities are now somewhat less inspiring.
