Cult Scottish folk twins the Proclaimers finally celebrated a number one single - although they did have a little help from comedians Peter Kay and Matt Lucas.

Their classic 1980s hit (I'm Gonna Be) 500 Miles claimed top spot in the singles chart after being reworked in aid of Comic Relief by the comics.

The track, which only reached number 11 in 1988, now features vocals from Little Britain character Andy Pipkin, played by Lucas, and Kay's Phoenix Nights creation Brian Potter.

It had already entered the charts last week at number three, while another Comic Relief single, Walk This Way featuring Girls Aloud and the Sugarbabes, was the chart topper.

This dropped to number two this week while Canadian rocker Avril Lavigne had the top ten's only new entry with Girlfriend at number three.

Other big movers in the singles chart included Maximo Park with Our Velocity, which climbed 21 places to nine, and Alex Gaudino, whose Destination Calabria went up 13 to five.

In the album chart Take That continued their amazing come back as Beautiful World returned to the top spot, up one from number two.

X Factor loser Ray Quinn, who entered the chart at number one last week, was knocked off the summit as a result with his album Doing It My Way.

Indie pop outfit the Kaiser Chiefs climbed up from number six to three, and upcoming Enter Shikari were at number four with their debut Take To The Skies.

Other acts entering the top ten this week included Nelly Furtado with her album Loose, up five from 11 to six, and Justin Timberlake, up from 16 to nine with Futuresex/Lovesounds.
