David Smyth
25 May 2007

Amy Winehouse
Shepherd's Bush Empire, W12

The beehived one had better put on the slickest shows of her life at these two gigs, rescheduled from March after being cancelled at the last minute in mysterious circumstances. Everyone loves her fabulous album, but it's harder to warm to her erratic performance abilities.
(0870 771 2000). Mon 28, Tue 29 May, 7pm.

Rufus Wainwright
Old Vic, SE1

After his triumphant turn as Judy Garland at the Palladium in February, the sharp-dressed showman arrives at another great London theatre to show off the pomp and circumstance of elaborate latest album Release the Stars.
(0870 040 0046). Sun 27 May-Fri 1 Jun, 12.30pm

Games for May
Queen Elizabeth Hall, SE1

If you were there 40 years ago, when Pink Floyd's Games for May happening took place at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, you probably don't remember it. Here's an opportunity to try again at this tribute night, starring fellow psychedelia enthusiast Robyn Hitchcock and former Blur man Graham Coxon.
(08703 800 400). Sat 26 May, 7.30pm.

Girls Aloud
Wembley Arena
When not busy insulting fellow pop stars, Girls Aloud can be found wearing next to nothing and dancing in formation to their many excellent hits. Rumours of an imminent split persist, but until then, enjoy many of the catchiest singles of recent years.
(0870 060 0870). Sat 26 May, 6.30pm.

Novelle Vague
Shepherd's Bush Empire, W12

The world of cover versions is busier than ever right now, with new covers albums by the likes of Patti Smith, Bryan Ferry and Mark Ronson piling up fast. This French collective have a more interesting technique than most, making sunny bossa nova pop out of tracks by everybody from the Buzzcocks to Joy Division.
(0870 771 2000). Sun 27 May, 7pm.
