Lee Mead: the new Joseph couldn't crack the charts

Look here too

The winner of TV talent show Any Dream Will Do has just missed out on the top chart spot.

Lee Mead, who won the chance to play the lead in a new Andrew Lloyd Webber stage production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, lost out to R&B sensation Rhianna.

His single Any Dream Will Do, recorded for the charity - Children in Need, came in at number two in the chart. Barbados-born Rhianna held on to the number one spot for a sixth successive week with the hit Umbrella, featuring Jay-Z.

Elsewhere indie darlings Editors, fresh from a triumphal performance at the Glastonbury festival, were one of this week's highest climbers. Their single Smokers Outside The Hospital Doors shot up 23 places to number seven in the charts.

Veteran boy band Take That also made a return with their single I'd Wait For Life, breaking into the top 20 at 17.

Former Beatle Sir Paul McCartney made an appearance in the chart with his single Dance Tonight in at 34. In the album charts, American indie rockers White Stripes beat off all comers with their album Icky Thump entering in the top spot.

The Detroit duo's sixth album was recorded at Nashville's Blackbird studio. Meg and Jack White took just three weeks to record the album. They beat off golden oldies the Travelling Wilburys, who fell one place to number two.

The supergroup, which featured ex-Beatle George Harrison, Bob Dylan and Tom Petty, swept aside all comers last week with their greatest hits album - Collection. The group, which also featured the legendary Roy Orbison and Jeff Lynne, only ever made two albums.

Latin groover Enrique Iglesias also stormed the chart with his album - Insomniac taking third spot. Take That's good week following an appearance in the singles chart was made all the sweeter after Never Forget - The Ultimate Collection sneaked into the top ten in ninth spot.
