Squeeze are to perform in their old south London stamping ground for the first time in more than 20 years.
The band, which split up in 1999, are re-forming for a tour of Britain and the US, and will be doing a warm-up show at The Albany in Deptford. Founding members Glenn Tilbrook and Chris Difford, both from south-east London, often performed at the venue in the Seventies.
Squeeze, who had the 1979 hits Cool For Cats and Up The Junction, last played at The Albany in 1982, supported by Dire Straits and Elvis Costello. Tickets for Thursday's concert sold out in an hour. Gavin Barlow, chief executive of The Albany, said: "It's very exciting. We tried to keep ticket prices down, selling them at £15, but I've seen some on eBay for £100."
The band perform at GuilFest in Guildford on Saturday and will tour the US before returning to Britain in November to perform nationwide.

Gig at the Albany was fanastic. Great to see them in such intimate venue. Agree with the above, Glenn was on top form.

I went to this concert last night and Squeeze were absolutely awesome. Glenn Tilbrook only gets better with age. The songs chosen were some of the very best. Thank you!!

With a single dessert and just two glasses of wine our bill was kept in check - but the effort of doing so was not much fun
