There are some fantastic gigs to choose from this week, from a rock festival for whippersnappers to dancehall superstar buju Banton at the Brixton Academy.
Underage Festival
Victoria Park E9
The first rock festival solely for whippersnappers sees 5,000 14-17-year-olds gathering in Hackney to swap tips on excessive eyeliner use and bop heartily to sets from youthful indie bands including the Young Knives, Pull Tiger Tail and GoodBooks. If you're too wrinkled, try the similar Field Day tomorrow. (08700 600 100).Friday, noon-8pm.
Field Day Festival Victoria Park, E9
Those excluded from Underage will be made welcome on Saturday, as the brattish indie is replaced for the most part by more mature acts including Gruff Rhys, James Yorkston, Euros Childs and 1990s.
(08700 600 100). Saturday, noon-10.30pm.
Ari Up
The Spitz E1
The best known member of female punk group the Slits, who these days makes more of a reggae sound but hopefully will still find time for her old band's fabulous cover of I Heard It Through the Grapevine.
(020 7392 9032) Sunday, 7pm.
Buju Banton
Brixton Academy, SW9
The Jamaican star hopes to rise above the ongoing accusations of homophobia that surround him and play a few highlights from his latest album, the dancehall-styled Too Bad.
(0844 477 2000). Sunday, 7pm.
Silverchair
Brixton Academy, SW9
Huge in their Australian home since they first emerged in 1992, Silverchair have barely dented the charts over here, so this will be a show for their London-based countrymen rather than a belated attempt to convert the Brits.
(0844 477 2000). Friday, 7pm.
Tonight:
5°c
