By Amira Hashish, Evening Standard 08.05.08The lowdown on the best live music in London this weekend...
JIVE ACES
Where: Pigalle
When: Friday, May 9
Tickets: £10-£15
www.jiveaces.com
They have been referred to as one of the hardest working bands in showbusiness and it's little wonder with over 300 shows a year in more than 25 countries. If swing is your thing then this is a must. With their own compositions as well as interpretations of classic swing songs, this will be an entertaining evening.
VIVA LA DIVA
Where: 02 Arena
When: Sat, May 10 & Sun May 11
Tickets: £27.50-£75
www.the02.co.uk
Prima ballerina Darcey Bussell CBE and international opera star, Katherine Jenkins have united talents to create a musical called Viva La Diva. They will bring, what will no doubt be a glamorous show, to London this weekend.
MR SCRUFF
Where: Koko
When: Saturday, May 10
Tickets: £15
www.mrscruff.com
British DJ Mr Scruff's name was inspired by his scruffy facial hair, as well as his trademark loose-lined drawing style. He will release a new album at the end of the year. Whatever the set list for this gig, it's likely to be quirky and ideal for those who want to dance on their night out.
GIVE IT A NAME 2008
Where: Earls Court
When: Saturday, May 10
Tickets: £33.50
www.giveitaname.co.uk
Earls Court will be transformed into a one day festival-style venue for the Give It A Name event. Plane White T's and Billy Talent are amongst the bands set to take the stage. Post hardcore and pop punk fans will have a field day with this one.
MICA PARIS
Where: IndigO2
When: Sunday, May 11
Tickets: £30
www.micaparis.com
Mica Paris is the current presenter of What Not To Wear (that's right, Trinny and Susannah's old show). But she is not leaving behind her music roots. The soul and gospel singer will be performing at IndigO2. Expect a big voice and plenty of personality.
