Coldplay were the big winners at today's Q Awards.
The band won Best Album and Best Act in the World Today at the annual showbiz bash.
The Last Shadow Puppets, a side project of Arctic Monkey Alex Turner, was named Best New Act.
Duffy beat Adele to the Breakthrough Artist gong and Keane won Best Track for Spiralling.
The Kaiser Chiefs took the title for Best Live Act and Grace Jones was named a Q Idol.
Adam Ant won the Q Icon award and David Gilmour the Outstanding Contribution to Music title.
Meat Loaf made a bizarre appearance on stage, when he appeared to almost fall over.
After having apparent difficulty getting to the stage, he asked award presenter Al Murray to repeat his jokes.
A spokesman for Meat Loaf said he had been suffering from vertigo.
Alan Carr replaced Jonathan Ross as the host of this year's awards, voted for by Q magazine readers.
The butt of his jokes included Coldplay, Keira Knightley, George Michael and Amy Winehouse.
He told the audience: "Coldplay are more rock and roll than you think. You should have seen the state of their suite. Have you tried getting tofu out of their sheets?"
Of Knightley, he said she had been sunbathing on Highgate Hill but was "so pale and thin, she'd only been stretched out for five minutes when Amy Winehouse snorted her".
Of Madonna, he added that her "lip-synching had been word-perfect" and she had the "arms of a discus thrower".
He said he feared "Mrs Ronnie Wood knows what I'm talking about" when he joked about fresh-faced youngsters seeking their opportunity and "pushing the old guys into touch".
Peaches Geldof was also an object of ridicule, with Carr saying: "The Legend award traditionally goes to someone who through sheer hard work has won the respect of the music industry. So I guess it's not going to be Peaches Geldof this year."
Alex Turner picked up an award for The Last Shadow Puppets, saying his musical partner Miles (Kane) "couldn't be here because he's had some terrible trouble with the trains".
Duffy was also not able to attend the event to pick up her gong.
Carr joked: "People are calling her the new Amy Winehouse. If Amy Winehouse keeps it up they'll soon be calling her the only Amy Winehouse."
Coldplay star Chris Martin collected the Best Act in the World Today award from former Catatonia star Cerys Matthews.
He told Matthews: "Ten years ago we supported Catatonia" to which the I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! star replied: "Don't rub it in".
Martin added: "You let me hold your cigarette. I thought maybe there was a chance, but there was no chance."
Matthews joked: "There is a chance."
Martin told the audience: "Unfortunately I've got so much to say that I'm going to bore your pants off. If you were Girls Aloud that would be a good thing."
He joked: "We're not cool. We're the biggest band in the world. Okay U2 are on holiday and Radiohead are on holiday also".
Adam Ant said when he collected his award: "It feels very good to be standing here. It feels very good to be standing actually."
He added: "I'll be collecting my catalogue royalties from Coldplay later on."
Grace Jones, who was presented with an award from Tom Jones, said: "Lazarus came back from the dead. I've just been on holiday."
Gilmour paid a moving tribute to Pink Floyd keyboard player and founder member Richard Wright, who died last month from cancer.
He hinted that he would no longer play the Pink Floyd tracks that Wright had written.
He told the audience: "I'm going to dedicate this, if you don't mind, to my old friend and colleague Richard Wright who died a couple of weeks ago, (and) with whom I had worked for 40-odd years now.
"That's now come to an end. There's all sorts of music that I will not be able to play again without him. That's a source of sadness for me.
"One of the last things he wanted to do in this last year was a big outdoor festival such as Glastonbury.
"We weren't able to do that due to all sorts of reasons which is, again, a sadness.
"He deserves this as much as I do. You could say that he was in the position of second fiddle, slightly behind some of the pushier chaps in the front.
"But his work was mighty important to our entire careers."
Pink Floyd were said to have been snubbed by Glastonbury organiser Michael Eavis following their offer to perform this year.
Asked afterwards whether he was not going to perform songs that Wright had helped compose, he said "Maybe", adding: "I want to leave it at that."
Wright wrote music for classic Pink Floyd albums such as Dark Side Of The Moon and Wish You Were Here.
The Great Gig In The Sky, and Us And Them, both from 1973's Dark Side Of The Moon album, were his best-known compositions.
He also made essential contributions to Atom Heart Mother, Echoes and Shine On You Crazy Diamond, the tribute to former band member Syd Barrett.
The awards took place at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
