Nile Rodgers, co-creator of disco classics including Le Freak and Everybody Dance and producer of giants such as David Bowie and Madonna, revives the band he formed in 1976 with the late Bernard Edwards.

Noah And The Whale
The formerly cutesy Twickenham folk-pop band have grown up on their newly released second album, The First Days of Spring, which features an orchestra and some deeply moving songs. They've even made a film to accompany it, which was screened at the ICA last night.

This cackling trio, the first girl group with an excess of personality since the Spice Girls, may not go down too well at this NME-run club night. Loved or more likely hated, they'll be fun to watch either way.

With two hit singles under her ludicrous quiff and her debut album now a long‑term resident of the top 10, Elly Jackson seems to have won the synthpop wars. Next week we'll find out if she's won the Mercury Prize, too.
