The Dolly Rockers
Girls just wanna have fun: The Dolly Rockers, who play at Koko tonight

Gigs of the week

4 Sep 2009

The Dolly Rockers' appearance at Koko is just one of the Gigs of the Week.

Chic
Nile Rodgers, co-creator of disco classics including Le Freak and Everybody Dance and producer of giants such as David Bowie and Madonna, revives the band he formed in 1976 with the late Bernard Edwards.
Tonight, Forum, NW5 (0844 847 2405; www.kentishtownforum.com)

Noah And The Whale
The formerly cutesy Twickenham folk-pop band have grown up on their newly released second album, The First Days of Spring, which features an orchestra and some deeply moving songs. They've even made a film to accompany it, which was screened at the ICA last night.
Tonight, ICA, SW1 (020 7930 3647; www.ica.org.uk).

The Dolly Rockers
This cackling trio, the first girl group with an excess of personality since the Spice Girls, may not go down too well at this NME-run club night. Loved or more likely hated, they'll be fun to watch either way.
Tonight, Koko, NW1 (0870 432 5527; www.koko.uk.com)

La Roux
With two hit singles under her ludicrous quiff and her debut album now a long‑term resident of the top 10, Elly Jackson seems to have won the synthpop wars. Next week we'll find out if she's won the Mercury Prize, too.
Thur 10 Sept, The Scala, N1 (020 7833 2022; www.scala-london.co.uk)

Bella Union Presents …
Four-day showcase for some of the less well-known names on the esteemed indie label's books, featuring headliners My Latest Novel (Mon), The Acorn (Tue), Banjo Or Freakout (Wed) and Peter Broderick (Thur).
Monday until Thursday 10 September, Bush Hall, W12 (020 8222 6933; www.bushhallmusic.co.uk).
