Class act: Oasis are up for two awards
Oasis have been nominated for two Q Awards after a turbulent year which saw Noel Gallagher quit and their stadium gigs slammed.
The Manchester band has been nominated for Best Act In The World Today despite their future being in jeopardy after the guitarist and songwriter walked out three weeks ago.
They are also up for Best Live Act even though their live shows this year have been plagued with a series of technical problems.
They had to issue 20,000 fans with a refund - at a cost of almost £1million - after a generator failed during the first of three concerts at Manchester's Heaton Park in June, which saw the band leave the stage twice.
During their first gig at Wembley Stadium in July, the PA system briefly closed down, and they were dogged with further sounds issues at the Benicassim festival in Spain a few weeks later, which they said was a “f**kin' waste of time”.
But Q's editor-in-chief said Oasis were nominated for the awards, which see them up against Muse, Coldplay, Kasbian and U2, by their fans.
He said: “The nominations are compiled from votes cast in their thousands by Q's readers, listeners, viewers and online users, so they reflect the choice of the nation's music fans.”
It was also announced today that Oasis have entered the 2010 Guinness Book of World Records for setting the longest Top 10 UK chart run by a group with 22 successive Top 10 hits in the UK.
