London,
Description: On Monday 23rd November at 7pm, there will be a Concert celebrating the life and songs of Judee Sill (1944-1979). Sill was an American singer/songwriter of the early 70s, and was part of the 'Laurel Canyon Sound' with such as Joni Mitchell, Carole King and Crosby/Stills/Nash. She was the first artist to be signed to David Geffen's 'Asylum Records', and her most successful UK hit was "Jesus was a cross maker", produced by Graham Nash. Judee Sill described her musical style as 'country-cult-baroque', citing Bach and Ray Charles as influences. Andy Partridge of 80s band XTC describes her melodies as "achingly beautiful - if you're a fan of the soulful, hymnal side of Brian Wilson (Beach Boys), then she is the female equivalent". She died of an overdose on 23rd November 1979 - exactly 30 years ago. The Concert will feature the songs from her Albums 'Judee Sill' and 'Heart Food'. Designed by Christopher Wren, St Bride's is the celebrated 'Journalists Church', notable for an eclectic musical repertoire, including recent performances by Greg Lake, and Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull The performers at The Judee Sill Concert are all professional musicians and fans of her music - between them they have performed in venues ranging from Ronnie Scott's and Carnegie Hall to the Royal Albert Hall and Buckingham Palace. Proceeds from the evening will go to HopeUK, a charity offering drug awareness sessions to children, young people and their parents
