On the road with his big band and freed from the TV studio confines of Later..., Jools Holland doesn't do disappointment.
The Rhythm & Blues Orchestra's jet engine thrust rams you right in the breastbone the moment they open with Holland's own composition, Double O Boogie. That's five saxes, five trombones, four trumpets and a dynamite rhythm section.
Up on the screen at the back of the stage, Holland's dextrous digits are the appropriately dominant image, pounding out a set filled with ex tempore miracles.
They encored with daft old Enjoy Yourself and even your reviewer sang along. But then, it's later than you think, so while you're still in the pink...
