Marc Almond
Wiltons Music Hall, E1
The Soft Cell singer has appeared on stage with Jools Holland and Patti Smith since 2004's motorbike accident, but this is the first chance to see him in a show of his own. He'll be performing tracks from a forthcoming covers album in the vintage venue.
(020 7702 2789). Tonight-Sun 6 May, 7.30pm.
Roots and Shoots
ICA, SW1
The nu-folk club night that recently gave itself over to old folk with a gig by Fairport Convention returns to its focus on young acts, hosting sets by the Sargasso Trio, Ned Collette, CW Stoneking and Sandy Dillon.
(020 7930 3647). Tonight, 8pm.
The Cinematic Orchestra
Barbican, EC2
Last seen at this venue performing their own soundtrack to the silent film Man with a Movie Camera, Jason Swinscoe's jazz-soul outfit continue their film fixation by returning to perform tracks from new album Ma Fleur, their first in five years. It's that old chestnut, the soundtrack to a movie that has yet to be made.
(020 7638 4141). Sun 6 May, 7.30pm.
Sophia
The Spitz, E1
Make the most of this idiosyncratic venue while you can, as unless the current Save the Spitz campaign is successful, it won't be putting on nights of jazz, world and avant garde music much longer. Here Robin Proper-Sheppard, once of US industrial rock act the God Machine, shows off his prettier project, Sophia.
(020 7392 9032). Sun 6 May, 7pm.
Suburban Kids with Biblical Names
Water Rats Theatre, WC1
Like cult US songwriter Stephin Merritt, Swedish duo Johan Hedberg and Peter Gunnarson combine a cavernous baritone and a wide range of musical styles to create an eccentric sound that will not appeal to all. If you can get over the nonsense, there are gems to be discovered. (020 7336 7326). Mon 7 May, 7.30pm.
