Plenty to please underage crowd
Sam Wilson (aged 16), Evening Standard 13 Aug 2007
We followed the crowds of indie kids. They looked as if they knew where they were going but only led us to a long and disorganised queue. We decided to slide in at the front so as not to miss any of the action.
First main act up which pulled a good crowd was hip hop crossover Lethal Bizzle who had the audience surfing straight into the waiting arms of security and back out to do it all again.
In the Converse tent, Teenagers, hot and sweaty, were having as much fun as the fans. The attempt to bring one onstage for some female vocals was red-carded, a move that attracted loud disapproval all round.
Out of the 40 or so acts, the most wanted were The Pigeon Detectives, indentikit northern indie rockers, whose songs were well known to their adoring audience. Their claim that buying their album might get you laid seemed a little optimistic.
Cajun Dance Party and Jack Penate injected extra energy on a mentally hot day; there was also a large element of spagging out on the grass drinking water and wishing there was more suntan lotion around. By this time, over-protective security guys were pouring water into open mouths in front of the stage, like mother birds feeding their chicks.
Will I go next year? Yeah, I'll be 17 - it's my last chance.
