The savings of £54million, identified in a leaked document, would affect regular, reserve and special forces.
The plans include cuts in TA training (£20million); axing recruitment of 500 more regular soldiers (£2million); delaying improvements to housing for 600 soldiers (£14million); stopping pay to armed forces trainees (£3million). The Land Forces In-Year Savings Measures Communication Plan, leaked to the Sun, also highlights another £46million of possible savings. It warns the TA's capability to train 700 to 800 soldiers for the Afghan conflict in 2012 "will be put at risk".
TA officers say they will lose 10 per cent of training strength.
The Ministry of Defence today said the cuts "will not negatively impact current operations".
