1.2m Londoners are at risk from 'pre-diabetes'

More than one million people in London suffer "pre-diabetes" and are at risk of developing the full condition, a charity has warned.

Diabetes UK figures show 1.2million people in the capital could have the illness, which makes them 15 times more likely to develop Type 2 diabetes.

Sufferers are usually overweight or obese and suffer from high blood pressure and high cholesterol.

People with pre-diabetes have blood glucose levels higher than normal and risk long-term damage to the body, especially the heart and circulatory system. But a Diabetes UK report, published today, says pre-diabetes can often be reversed.

Sufferers can cut the risk of developing Type 2 diabetes by 60 per cent by losing just a small amount of weight, changing their diet and doing more exercise.
