200 cyclists are given a lorry driver’s view

MORE than 200 cyclists took part in a police operation warning of the risk of crashes involving lorries.

It was part of a series of events being run by the Met to raise awareness among bike riders of the blindspot for drivers turning left.

Eleven cyclists have died on London's roads this year nine in collisions involving HGVs. Police invited cyclists to sit in a lorry cab to see for themselves the limited vision a driver has. Inspector Graham Horwood, from the Met's traffic unit, said: "I have witnessed first-hand the devastating effects of losing a loved one on family members and friends. We are determined to reduce the risks to cyclists and all road users."
