£278m for YSL art collection

The collection of art, antiquities and furniture gathered by Yves SaintLaurent and his partner Pierre Bergé are going on show in London.

Saint Laurent, who died last year aged 71, had bequeathed his share, in both men's names, to the charitable foundation which conserves the YSL haute couture archives. But Berge, 78, has now decided to put the entire collection up for sale for an estimate of up to £278 million.

More than 700 pieces are expected to sell at Christie's in Paris next month. They can be seen at its London headquarters from tomorrow until Wednesday.
