5,000-volt fence goes up at Olympic site

A FOUR-metre-high electrified perimeter fence is being erected around the 240-hectare Olympic site.

Games chiefs have been advised it is needed to deter potential terrorist plots as some of the venues near completion next year.

Sections of wire-mesh fence will gradually replace blue wooden hoardings around the site and are designed to allow people to watch construction of the Olympic facilities. The fence will be fitted in the summer with a 5,000-volt wire along with warning signs.

The Olympic Delivery Authority said it would pose no danger to the public or wildlife and was similar to fences at railway control centres. Other new security measures over the coming year include extra CCTV and security guards.
