£7m lottery winner returns to work - because he couldn't face spending rest of life on holiday

Just like the rest of us, Carl Prance must have dreamed of winning the lottery and giving up his job.

But then he did  -  and life didn't seem quite right. So, ten months after he became an instant millionaire, the railway worker is back to normal  -  getting up at 5am for the early shift. The only difference is that he drives to work in a Jaguar.

Mr Prance, 50, is the third generation of his family to work on the railways. And although he retired from driving trains after 34 years, when his family scooped the jackpot, it couldn't last.

'Some people might think I'm mad with all this money  -  but trains are in my blood,' said Mr Prance, a father of three. 'After the win I went on holiday to various resorts abroad.

'We went to Greece, Gran Canaria, Tenerife and Spain, but after a few months of holidays I was itching to get back to work.'

Mr Prance failed a medical which prevented him from driving engines, so he retrained as a £600 a week resource manager for Arriva Trains in Cardiff, setting rosters.

'I was delighted when they offered a job in the offices,' he said. 'It meant I was working with trains and my old workmates again.'

Mr Prance and five members of his family split £6.9million in October, a share of a £88million EuroMillions jackpot.

He and his wife Gillian, 50, gave their home in Splott, Cardiff, to their daughter, 19, and moved to a £64,000 caravan at the South Wales seaside resort of Porthcawl.

'I could have bought a holiday home anywhere in the world  -  but we love our caravans more,' Mr Prance added.

'It's lovely  -  why would we want to go anywhere else?'
