A case study

HAYLEY NASH was diagnosed as an alcoholic aged just 12.

At the height of her addiction she drank eight cans of lager and a litre of vodka a day.

She paid for alcohol using cash from a paper round and her weekly pocket money.

The abuse took a severe toll on her life. She suffered from high blood pressure, depression, severe liver problems, and was expelled from school.

Hayley, now 18, from Walsall in the West Midlands, started drinking after the death of her grandmother.

Her mother, Vanda Nash, 43, said: "We have been to hell and back with Hayley, but she has made it through. When she was young she was my little angel but when she started drinking she turned into a devil. She was expelled from school at 12 after that things just went from bad to worse. They were dark days for us all.

"The effects of the alcohol were not just mental, her skin has suffered badly, so much so that she has to see a specialist to help her.

"But Hayley has managed to turn it all around, she is off the booze, but it is still a daily battle for her."

The teenager now wants to highlight the dangers of alcohol to other children.
