But Evan Davis obviously couldn't wait until then to let his hair down.
The outgoing BBC economics editor appeared on the evening news on Sunday with a rather startling mohawk-style cut.
With his shaved back and sides, and small thatch of springy hair on top, he looked rather like the renegade cabbie played by Robert De Niro in the 1976 film Taxi Driver.

The 45-year-old is to join Radio 4's Today programme as the main presenter in April, taking over from current host Carolyn Quinn.
He won the job after a guest presenting slot last summer and will stay in the role for a minimum of 12 months.
Davis, who also hosts Dragons' Den, is known for his enthusiastic presenting style.
An openly gay Oxford graduate, he was placed at number 49 in the Pink List of the most influential gay people last year.
It is usually his female colleagues who attract attention with their physical appearance.
Newsreader Emily Maitlis made a fashion faux pas when her strapless dress lay too low across her decolletage in 2006.
Presenter Kate Silverton was inundated with complaints from viewers after wearing a psychedelic print blouse that was considered too garish for the breakfast news, and was forced to apologise on air.
And Fiona Bruce was nicknamed Fifi La Bruce by audience members who objected to her flashing too much leg on Crimewatch.
