Abandoned boy, 9, is ours, claim Punjabi family

A nine-year-old Sikh boy abandoned in London could have been dumped there by relatives to give him a chance for a better life.
The child was found in a health centre in London last month. He was unable to speak English but told police he had been living in Southall for three years with his "white uncle".
Now Indian police are taking seriously the claims of a family in India who say that the child is theirs. <> A Mail on Sunday investigation backs up the family's assertion that he is Gurinderjit Singh, who was taken abroad from the Punjab by his mother in October.
His birth certificate shows that Gurinderjit was born on April 21, 1997 – making him around the same age as the boy in London.
Gurinderjit's grandmother in India, Gurbachah Kaur, told The Mail on Sunday: "I've seen the photo. He's definitely my grandson. This is terribly upsetting."
Mrs Kaur, from Jalalpur village in the Punjab, has not spoken to her daughter Deeupinder since November after she left with her son to find work following the breakdown of her marriage.
Avinash Rai Khanna, the family's MP, said: "Gurinderjit and the Punjabi boy in London would seem to be the same person."
The abandoned boy is living with foster parents. A police spokesman said they were liaising with Indian authorities.
