Activists play ‘climate roulette’ in the City

27 August 2009
About 25 protesters dressed as "filthy rich gamblers" occupied the entrance to the European Climate Exchange in Bishopsgate. They played games with a roulette wheel and were met with confused looks from staff and passers-by.
Police stood by and watched as part of their low-key approach to the week of protests.
The demonstrators were from the 1,000-strong group of campers aiming to highlight environmental issues. They stood outside the exchange shouting: "Roll up to the climate change casino."
Protester Leila Deen, who threw custard over Lord Mandelson as an anti-airport expansion stunt, said: "I think a lot of people inside here [the exchange] believe they're doing something good for the environment, but our message is that they're not." More than 20 offices are expected to be targeted for action in the coming week.
