Jonathan Green: Commended for his 'great journalism'
Live magazine's powerful campaigning journalism was honoured last week by Amnesty International with one of its prized Media Awards.
Selling Soccer Into Slavery, Jonathan Green's report from Senegal into the cruel exploitation of young African men falsely promised Premier League riches, beat the co-finalist, the Sunday Times Magazine, to win the Newspaper Supplement category.
Presenting the award to Live editor Gerard Greaves in Jonathan's absence, Private Eye editor and Have I Got News For You presenter Ian Hislop commended
Live for taking human-rights issues to such a broad audience.
He said: 'In a market where you would not necessarily expect to find that sort of writing, Live demonstrated great journalism - they were fitting and worthy winners.'
The award for Best Periodical went to Index On Censorship magazine for a series of articles on the Russian media.
In the past 12 months, Live has won a clutch of other international awards, some for pieces on Ghana and Darfur.
Two months ago, Live was named Supplement of the Year jointly with You magazine at the British Press Awards.
