Animal charity boss let dog die

THE HEAD of an anti-animal cruelty group accidentally left her 16-year-old blind and deaf dog to die in a car during a heatwave.

Prosecutors said they were not planning charges against Robin Starr, chief executive of the Richmond Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals in Virginia.

Mrs Starr said she didn't realise her dog Louie was in the car. It was trapped for four hours as temperatures reached 33C.

Ms Starr's husband, Ed, said he put the dog in her people carrier's luggage area as she got ready for work but forgot to tell her. Ms Starr often took Louie to work with her.

The dog was taken to a vet but he died of kidney failure.
