Ambulancewoman Sarah Boyle has been verbally or physically abused by drunken patients seven times this year.

Ms Boyle, 29, was so frightened after the last attack that she was taken off the road. Attacks this year have included:

  • A drunken woman spitting at her.

  • A woman lying on the pavement in an estate punching her in the face and shoulder. She was off work injured for a month.

  • A man who had collapsed drunk chasing her with a 6ft-long iron bar.

  • A man throwing a wheelchair at her after she told him she could not take his wife to a private hospital.

Ms Boyle, who lives in Dartford, said: "People can be merry one minute then can turn in a second. They are so much more aggressive when they have been drinking."
