Tread carefully: today could be explosive

Couples should tread carefully in their relationships today because, according to experts, they are more likely to have a row.

Today is the day when a blazing argument is most likely to erupt between loved ones, thanks to a mixture of factors culminating in the end of the summer.

Relationship experts claim post-holiday depression, domestic chaos, financial strain and lack of sunshine all contribute to the high possibility of a row.

Paula Hall, a relationship psychotherapist, said: "By 30 August tensions have reached an all-time high as couples realise their summer is over. This often manifests itself in bickering and needless arguments."

The most common subjects are money, sex, work, children and housework.

Christina Tait, of Divorce Aid, a website for those going through divorce, said the peak time for divorces being initiated was September, after the August bank holiday.

She said: "There is an upsurge in requests. There is another peak after Christmas. But September is often the time when families have been together and are disappointed with the family holiday."

The divorce rate has risen by nine per cent in four years recent statistics have reveals. Analysts believe the change has occurred because women feel more financially independent and have become happy to strike out on their own.
