Charles and Camilla to visit Pakistan

The Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall will visit Pakistan on a week-long tour at the end of this month, Clarence House confirmed today.

Charles and Camilla will travel to the capital Islamabad, as well as areas devastated by last year's earthquake.

It will be the first time that both the Prince and the Duchess have visited the country. There is a high threat from terrorism and sectarian violence throughout Pakistan.

In March, a bomb exploded outside the US Consulate in Karachi, killing several and injuring around 50 people.

Pakistan-based Islamist militant group Lashkar-e-Toiba has been accused of being behind the train blasts in Mumbai in July that killed 186 people, according to police in India.

Pakistan has repeatedly demanded that India should prove it has any link to the bombings. It has promised to take action if evidence shows a connection.

The main aims of the royal tour are said to be supporting the breadth of the partnership between the UK and Pakistan and highlighting the countries' shared heritage.

Clarence House said the specific themes would be inter-faith, education and youth entrepreneurship, and sustainable development.

Charles and Camilla will be in Pakistan from Sunday October 29 to Friday November 3.

It will be their third joint overseas trip.
