Kingsman Hancock

A soldier has been killed in Iraq on his first day of active duty.

Kingsman Hancock, 19, had volunteered to join friends from the 2nd battalion Duke of Lancaster's regiment after serving in the Army for just a year. He was shot by a machine gunner at a watchtower on Monday.

Troops returned fire but the killers vanished. Jamie, of Wigan, Lancs, was the 121st British soldier to die in Iraq since the invasion in 2003.

My heart breaks for this young man and his family. So young!
I am holding my teenage son a little closer tonight.

Wake-up. This war has everything to do about a civilized future for everyone.

- Andrew, US

Yes, did you folks read the New York Times on Saddam being less then one year from having a nuclear weapon?

This young man died like many US Soliders. He volunteered. It's sad he died, but that's life, there is a war going on people, live with it. I suppose Blair and the other leaders could shove their heads in the sand and hope nothing bad happens...

- G. Rogers, San Antonio Texas

How on earth does Blair sleep at night?

- Squiz, Islington

Yet another young life thrown away, for what? Sent to fight in an illegal war which in fact should have nothing to do with us anyway. What can you put on this poor man`s gravestone, you tell me! Should one say he died serving his country then how? Another Blair sacrifice for nothing.

- Peter B. Smith, Lage germany
