Army duties take precedence

Prince Harry is missing out on Christmas Day with the royals this year.

The 22-year-old Army officer is on duty in his barracks over the festive period, Clarence House said.

While Prince William, the Prince of Wales and the Duchess of Cornwall gather with the Queen and other royals at Sandringham, Harry will be with his regiment the Blues and Royals at Windsor.

Royal aides insist Kate Middleton is not joining William for Christmas Day in Norfolk despite her appearance to watch him graduate from Sandhurst last week.

Her family is reported to be hiring a cottage in Scotland.

On Christmas Day, the Queen and the rest of her family attend a morning service at Sandringham Church, an annual event that draws crowds of well-wishers.

Camilla will leave after lunch to spend the rest of the day with her family - daughter Laura Lopes and son Tom Parker-Bowles.

In the afternoon, the monarch's Christmas speech is broadcast to the nation.
