They may have been divorced for more than a decade, but Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson are clearly still the best of friends.

They spent more than three-and-a-half hours in each other's company on Monday night, enjoying a meal at the China Tang restaurant at the Dorchester.

Sarah had arrived alone for their meeting, but the Duke of York, 46, offered her a lift home when they left the Mayfair hotel just past midnight. The couple officially ended their 10-year marriage in 1996.

Only last year the Duchess of York, 47, who spends much of her time in New York, revealed the pair sometimes live together when she is in London and still have a happy family life.

Fergie, who has admitted being heartbroken after their divorce, added: "We all sit round the table and eat together. Andrew and I believe in total parent unity. We're best friends and the girls love it."

Both have remained friendly for the sake of their daughters Beatrice, 18, and Eugenie, 16.

The princesses may not have been at the restaurant but they were there in spirit, thanks to their mother's shopping bag which had a black-and-white portrait of the girls printed on it.

Despite the cosiness of the evening, Fergie insists she has no plans to give her relationship with Prince Andrew another go.

In a recent interview with People magazine she also spoke of her hurt at being snubbed for the Queen's 80th birthday celebrations last year.

She described her admiration for Dame Helen Mirren's portrayal of the Queen although she said the film brought back the pain of losing her friend Princess Diana.
