Beatrice's boyfriend gives her a ring

While speculation of an engagement between Prince William and Kate Middleton mounts steadily, things are becoming increasingly serious between William's younger cousin Beatrice and her 'spaceman' boyfriend David Clark.

The couple have only been dating for eight months, yet Dave, 24 – who was introduced to Princess Beatrice by William – has already holidayed twice with the 18-year-old Royal and her mother in the chic ski resorts of St Moritz and Verbier.

Now American-born Clark, who works for Sir Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic space project, has taken the relationship a step further by buying Beatrice – who is fifth in line to the throne – a Russian wedding ring.

'It's absolutely beautiful and Beatrice is thrilled with it,' says my Royal source. 'The ring is made out of three bands of gold: one yellow, one grey and one red.

'Clearly, it's not an official engagement or wedding ring as Beatrice is still only 18, but Dave has told Beatrice that it's a sign of his commitment to her and that's more than enough for Beatrice.'

I understand that Beatrice's parents, the Duke and Duchess of York, are equally thrilled about her relationship with Dave – who lives with his family in their £5million mansion in North London.

'They think Dave is a healthy influence,' explains my source.

'And, although he's six years older than Bea, they're not worried about the age gap.'
