With the tenth anniversary of Princess Diana's death less than five months away, Princes William and Harry have been busy planning a fitting memorial service and concert in memory of their mother.

Harry will be coming home from Iraq for both events and now it has been revealed that Prince William wants a more hands-on role at the Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, which is dedicated to carrying on Diana's humanitarian work.

William, who will inherit the first chunk of his inheritance from his mother on his 25th birthday in June, has also told Royal aides he wants to donate a sizeable part of the £300,000 cheque to the fund.

"It's the right time for William to get involved and protect his mother's legacy and continue her work," says a Royal source.

"As well as making a financial contribution he wants a more hands-on role with the memorial fund. It was William's idea to make it a beneficiary of the concert at Wembley in July."

His wish to become more closely involved with the charity, of which Diana's sister Lady Sarah McCorquodale is president, is certain to be hugely welcomed.

The fund has been subject to costly legal battles and controversy and was accused of lowering the late Princess's image by lending her signature to a margarine.
