'Intriguing': The Burrow, just outside Canterbury

A house built into the Kent countryside, earning it the nickname the Teletubbies home, has gone on sale for £2 million.

The property, just outside Canterbury, has five bedrooms, a four-acre garden and an indoor swimming pool with sauna and changing rooms. But its environmentally friendly "earthsheltered" construction is attracting the most interest.

Dawn Carritt of estate agent Jackson-Stops and Staff, managing the sale of The Burrow, said it was designed to blend in with the surrounding area.

"It is an intriguing contemporary house which embraces the ancient concept of earth-sheltered construction and the modern use of glass and steel," she said.

"Canterbury council snubbed a whole series of planning applications for homes on this site before this one was agreed.

This design was an inspiration. It is partly dug into the hillside and the front is curved glass which lets lots of light in.

"Many people have suggested it resembles the house in the Teletubbies."

The accommodation includes a large entrance hall, dining room, conservatory-study, office and cloakroom.

Mrs Carritt said: "The house is almost totally camouf laged when viewed from surrounding land.

"It is also economical - the insulation makes it cool in the summer and warm in the winter."
