Scorned woman loads partner's belongings in his van - and rolls it into the sea

When Jason Wilson defied his angry fiance and stayed out for one more pint he was sure that it would result in nothing more than a few choice words on his return home.

But Emma Thomason appears to have had other ideas and allegedly packed all of his belongings into the back of his van, parked it at a nearby marina and watched it roll slowly into the water.

Having allegedly taken her revenge she is then said to have fled as dozens of onlookers watched the stricken vehicle sink to the bottom of the harbour - along with Mr Wilson's worldly possessions.

It must have been bad: Emma Thomason got all her partner's worldly goods together, put them in his van, and plonked it all in Whitehaven harbour

Not happy: Thomason leaving her house

If his day could not get any worse the 24-year-old plasterer was then thumped by a friend of Miss Thomason's who wrongly assumed that she had caught him with another woman.

Last night, with his boss's £10,000 van written off, the couple's seven-year relationship was all but over. Mr Wilson says he has cancelled the wedding and the £2,000 Caribbean honeymoon.

"I can't go back to her if she has a temper like that," he said.

"She lets things boil up and up inside and then she just lets fly. But this is way beyond anything else."

"I just can't live with that for the rest of my life - I don't think nobody could. I have always hated confrontation and prefer to say nothing than have an argument with someone."

Mr Wilson, who is now living with a friend, said the drama began as the couple enjoyed a night out with friends last Sunday. Miss Thomason wanted to return home early whilst he wanted to continue drinking.

After apparently storming off she returned to their home in Whitehaven, Cumbria, where she allegedly began rounding up his clothes, CDs and DVDs. She then is said to have piled them into the back of his works van.

The van was parked at the top of a slipway, the handbrake released and it rolled back into the water where it bobbed up and down before sinking 12 feet to the bottom.

The first Mr Wilson knew of his van's plight came in a phone call from his boss, Graham Wilson, 29, who had been contacted by the police wanting to know what had happened.

Coastguard volunteers battled to get the van out of the dock and even dropped the water level by a metre but called off the operation in the early hours of Monday morning.

A professional diver arrived later along with specialised equipment to winch the vehicle back up the slipway and onto dry land. The final bill is expected to run into thousands.

"Every single last item of clothing I had was in the back of the van. Absolutely everything, my shirts, socks, jeans, boxer shorts - everything. I just couldn't believe it.

"All I was left with were the clothes I was wearing and one pair of jeans that were missed because they were in the washing machine. It was mostly High Street stuff rather then designer gear but it all comes to about £500 - which I don't have spare.

"I haven't told her yet that the wedding is over - but I think she can put two and two together. I'm just grateful that my boss had been good about it. He was furious at first but he realised it wasn't my fault."

The couple, who have two children together and were due to marry in August, had bought the wedding rings, Miss Thomason's dress and just 24 hours before the incident had booked the holiday to the Caribbean.

Last night, one onlooker, who watched the van roll into the harbour, said: "I was going to ask what was going on but I decided I'd better not."

Mr Wilson's boss, who has given him a week off, said: "I don't know the ins and outs yet, but it must have been serious for this course of action to happen and I'll certainly be asking for an explanation.

"I'm trying to see the funny side, but it's hard," he said.

"I've been to see the van - which is a total write-off - and all his clothes and possessions are in the back of it," he said. "I just hope that the insurance company are prepared to pay out.

"Everyone I know is laughing about this but I'm finding that hard to do. They don't stand to lose as much as me."

Cumbria Police confirmed that a woman had been arrested in connection with the incident and had since been released on bail.

Last night, Miss Thomason refused to comment at the couple's semi-detached home.

What a bunny boiler, van looks clean though, no silly slogans written in dust.

Not only is it criminal damage, it's dangerous driving. She let off the handbrake.
