Three-legged tiger defies the poachers
Last updated at 10:52am on 05.07.07A tiger in the Indonesian jungle has survived against the odds after having its front foot ripped off by poachers' traps.
The Sumatran tiger is thought to have either chewed off its foot or pulled its leg from the wire trap, leaving its foot behind.
In normal circumstances the tiger would have been expected to die through blood loss, infection or an inability to catch food in its weakened state. But the animal has amazed conservationists and managed to catch enough prey to stay healthy.
Pictures of the tiger taken in March and May by a camera trap - set up in the Sumatran jungle by conservationist group WWF - show the male animal in a healthy state.

Good for the tiger, it's just a shame it didn't wait around for the poachers to come back and get its revenge.

Poor thing. Personally I think whoever set the trap should have their foot caught in one and see how they like it!

Precious is a new-style weepie but one that is much more bracing than depressing
