Nathan Campbell: filmed himself at speeds of up to 120 miles per hour

A teenager who filmed himself speeding at more than 140mph has been jailed for what experts described as among the most reckless pieces of driving they had ever seen.

The court heard how Campbell had used his mobile phone's video camera feature to film his driving and record his speed by filming the dash board dials as he drove his father's Toyota MR 2 sports car.

The court was told by prosecutor Sarah Statham that Campbell drove on the M65 between Colne and Blackburn when he was seen by off duty police officer Michael Holt.

PC Holt saw the MR2 undertake another vehicle using the hard shoulder.

The red MR2 came back onto the motorway forcing anothe rcar to swerve and then went onto undertake several other vehicles.

The PC noted the registration number and a week later the same officer was told about a video clip on YouTube.

The clip showed the MR 2 speedometer at 140 mph but the court was told there may have been a 20 mph fault on it.

Campbell was arrested adn told police he had not put the clips on the website but had sent it to a friend who had then sent it to YouTube.

The court heard that Campbell had passed his test after just eight lessons. He had received no motorway driving tuition but had no previous convictions.

Phillip Holden, defending, said : "It hardly needs saying but this was an act of gross stupidity and something my client bitterly regrets."

Spokesman for the RAC Foundation Edmund King said after the case: " This is some of the most appalling and dangerous driving I have ever witnessed."

It's disgusting; I'm 19 and it's because of this idiots stupidity that my insurance premium is so high!

Another chav idiot bites the dust. Trouble is, there are plenty more where he came from.

Let's see, 4 months in prison with time off for good behaviour, then add the government's early release policy should mean he'll be out next week.
