A teenager killed himself after he was dumped by text message, an inquest heard yesterday.

Jamie Gaylor, who had already split up six times from Grace Denne, was heartbroken when she told him the relationship was finally over.

The 17-year-old went on a drinking session after which he was found hanged beside a lake.

The labourer had threatened to take his life a number of times, the inquest was told, but his friends had not taken him seriously.

A year ago he claimed to have swallowed 60 painkillers, but was discharged from hospital without suffering any complications.

Miss Denne, 18, jilted Mr Gaylor by text message two days before his death. He replied by threatening to kill himself unless she met him.

"She did meet him and as far as she was concerned, although they were not back together, they were friends," Berkshire coroner Peter Bedford told the inquest in Windsor.

The drinking session with friends took place the next day, May 25, and ended only when Mr Gaylor left the pub at around 3am. Craig Allen, one of his closest friends, said the motorcycle enthusiast had been snorting cocaine.

The claim was confirmed later by toxicology results.

Instead of going home from the pub, Mr Gaylor went to an all-night petrol station, where surveillance cameras picked him up buying a yellow tow rope.

Then, at around 5.30am, he sent Miss Denne a last text message saying: "I know I have messed you around and I need to let you go and forget about you".

Four hours later, a dog walker found his body hanging from a tree at Maiden Erlegh Lake, half a mile from his house in Earley, Berkshire.

In a statement, Mr Gaylor's parents, Paul and Deborah, said their son was a "big, friendly giant".

"He was always happy," they added. "He was a really nice guy and you could not say a bad word about him.

"He loved having a great time. He was a party animal. Everybody knew him. He was the friendliest person - one of the nicest people you could know.

"He knew no fear. He was a daredevil. Even if something would hurt him, he would do it. He was big, about 6ft 5in - a big, friendly giant."

On a social networking website, Miss Denne described Mr Gaylor, who she started dating in February 2006, as "my angel".

She wrote: "I love u so much and i promise u that i will never forget about you. No one will eva be able to replace u, n u know that. u know that i'll be ur baby forever.

"U were my first love n my one n only. i miss u more than ever."

The coroner recorded a verdict of suicide.

This is so sad, our children are so confused about love and relationships. Love is unconditional.
