Surrounded by her family, the Queen delivered one of her most personal Christmas messages yesterday.

Footage of the Royal Family gathering to celebrate her diamond wedding anniversary was released to accompany her traditional address to the nation.

The Queen gives her 50th Christmas day speech to the nation

The film was shot last month at Clarence House at a black-tie dinner thrown by the Prince of Wales in his parents' honour.

Posing for a group photograph, the Queen delivers a spontaneous and enthusiastic "cheese".

Then, as the family stand around, Prince Harry asks with a grin: "Are you going to feed us now?"

Harry is also shown giving his aunt, Princess Anne, a kiss on both cheeks, while a jovial Duke of York chats to his daughters Beatrice and Eugenie.

The Royal family poses for an official portrait for the Queen's 50th wedding anniversary celebrations earlier this year

Last month the Queen became the first British monarch to celebrate-a diamond wedding.

The then Princess Elizabeth and Lieutenant Philip Mountbatten wed on Thursday November 20 1947.

Last week she reached another landmark when she became the oldest monarch in history - beating the record set by her greatgrandmother, Queen Victoria.

History was certainly on her mind as she delivered her Christmas Day message yesterday, marking the 50th anniversary of her first televised broadcast.

Black-and-white footage from the 1957 address was used at the beginning and end of yesterday's speech.

That debut appearance, which was broadcast live from Sandringham, showed the Queen as a dark-haired 31-year-old.

Fifty years on, grey-haired, wearing glasses and captured in colour, the Queen wore the same three-stringed pearl necklace --her favourite piece of jewellery.
